I’ve noticed an unintentional trend in the QoS series: as the mythology progresses, its theme darkens. I suppose that’s only natural because the floodwater of fiends is rising while the timeline for escape is ebbing.
Books 1 – 3 (the morning of the series) lay the foundation, while books 4 – 6 (the afternoon) broaden the scope of Shadowind’s cosmic realm and add to its chaos. Even as the flickering hopes of survival die out, the sense of wonder remains alive with new discoveries, and the sense of humor lives on in the characters’ resilient voices. Just because Logan and Mindy are maturing, doesn’t mean that Watchman Danby is. Some people never grow up.
So as we approach the release date (stay tuned!) of the next three Quests of Shadowind books, remember this: the daylight creatures are scurrying away, giving in to the monsters of Shadowind’s night.
